Fire, Burbank, California
This brush fire broke out in the hills above Burbank around 3PM. I saw the smoke from my office and climbed up on the roof to shoot. The hills are about 2 miles from where I was and the heat of the day, and the heat from the fire, combined with the distance, made for a lot of distortion in the image. This picture is not as technically clean as I would have liked, but I like the drama of the scene and the story it tells. The homes threatened run in the millions of dollars. 5 fire helicopters and the smoke jumpers you see on the ridge knocked it down in an hour. The fire burned 80 acres.
